South African tax invoice requirements
A valid South African tax invoice needs specific details to be accepted by SARS and your customers — this generator fills them in for you automatically.
What a valid tax invoice needs
The words "Tax Invoice", a unique invoice number, the date of issue, your business name and address, your customer's name and address, a description of the goods or services, the quantity and price of each item, and the total amount due including VAT if applicable.
VAT basics for small businesses
You only need to charge VAT if you're registered as a VAT vendor with SARS — currently required once your turnover exceeds R1 million in a 12-month period, though you can register voluntarily from R50,000. If you're VAT registered, your invoice must show your VAT number and the VAT amount charged separately from the subtotal.
